garden
A mess. *Be warned of possibly very loud sounds!
This is my submission for my first game jam: NOISE JAM 2, and my first "finished" game.
The idea was to make a procedural simulation of a garden that grows and rots with time, tying in with the Jam's secondary theme of flowers and rot. Midway through the project I had the idea of making the flowers play a music sample when they grow or die, to act as some sort of digital instrument.
Nothing went as I expected. I have no art skills whatsoever, so the visual department ended up lackluster. I meant to add some visual noise but didn't have time for it. I struggled to gain confidence in using the engine and it's language. This cost me most of my time. I restarted the project due to messy code, and only got serious with it in the last few days. On the last day I had to choose between sleep and finishing it, and unfortunately, I chose sleep. The delivered product is functional, but I'm not satisfied with it. Still, I did something, which is already more than I've done in the past.
- How strange it is to be anything at all.

I like the art! With pixel art especially, more detail can ruin the beauty, as you want to make an image that can be built in someone’s mind. That’s the art of older games, what makes them evocative, and I think you’ve achieved that here.
Thank you for playing, makes me happy!
